Fulfilling Calidanzas Mission

01

After School Programs

Since 2014 Calidanza has partnered with several school districts in northern California. With the help of our partners we are able to have students perform for their schools, community arts events, the news, and even in theaters! Thanks to community interest, we keep expanding our programs and are now teaching at 11 schools!

Calidanza Educational Productions

With the help of our partners Calidanza is able to perform quality theater productions. Students and community members can enjoy the art of dance live in a theater with a full Calidanza cast. Some of our after school program participants have the opportunity to perform on the stage with their schools. For some students watching this is the first chance they get to see a dance production live and in a theater. Our current productions include:

"Navidades" TRUSD at Crest Theater, Warnor Center, Gallo Center for Arts, The Sofia in Sacramento

Residencies at Luther Burbank Center for Arts, Santa Rosa CA

"Festejos" at Mondavi Center for Arts, Diablo Center for Arts, Gallo Center for the Arts

Past productions:

Noche de Muertos- Commissioned by San Francisco Symphony 2013 and recommissioned by  Crocker Art Museum  2015-2018

Assembly Performances
Any Given child

Thanks to the Any Given Child program Calidanza is able to fulfill our mission. Calidanza offers professional Folklorico school assembly performances to students all around the Sacramento region and surrounding areas. Any Given Child is a program developed in partnership with The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts to provide access and equity to arts education during the school day for K-8 students. Students can enjoy dances from different states of Mexico, inspiring their interest in dance and culture.

Healthy Hearts

In 2020 Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) collaborated with the City of Sacramento Office of Arts and Culture on a new program that combines artists, community mentors, and mental health specialists to assist students most affected by COVID-19 and related school closures. Called Sacramento Healthy HeARTs and Minds, the program uses the arts to help address mental health issues, trauma, absenteeism, and other effects of the pandemic on already at-risk youth.

Calidanza is honored to be part of this amazing program.

Students who can participate in Healthy Hearts include those enrolled in SCOE’s Juvenile Court Schools and Community Schools programs, plus students in the Sacramento City Unified and Twin Rivers Unified school districts.

05

Artist Residency

Thanks to our residency program, our instructors can take their teaching into schools during schools hours. With this program, students are able to learn Folklorico.
